Hello Everybody!
This is Bret writing for the rest of the guys in Jericho Road inviting you and your loved ones to come join us next Saturday, August 25th at Eagle Mountain, UT to give a hand up to African children. Most of you probably don't know that I just spent 5 weeks of my summer break from law school serving the AIDS patients in the beautiful country of Uganda (it's in East Africa, for those of you who don't know). I spent every day of my 5-week "externship" for law school writing wills for AIDS patients so that they could attempt to secure a stable future for their children by protecting their property and naming guardians. I fell in love with the people that I worked with, and was humbled and inspired by them as I heard about their lives and knew the difference I was making for their children. I would do anything to help enable these people to be self-sufficient. I know from personal experience that the means and talents we have are not for our own egos and enjoyment, but for the blessing of those who are among the have-nots, and when used in this way bring us the most joy! That is why I am extremely proud to be introducing this benefit concert, where every penny we raise will go directly to people like the ones I was working with this past summer:
JRBC II Reach the Children at Eagle Mountain, UT on Saturday, August 25, 2007
The Jericho Road Benefit Concert (JRBC) is officially becoming an annual event this August as Jericho Road and friends raise money for incredibly needy children in Africa. Last year we had 2,500 people in attendance or JRBC I, a benefit for the Leukemia Society that raised over $10,000 for leukemia research. This year we are expecting over 4,000 people to attend and want to raise over $30,000 for Reach The Children. We have already raised $18,000 in corporate donations before selling tickets, so please help us reach our goal!
Featuring:
Jericho Road
Jenny Jordan Frogley
Jacob Luttrell
Cherie Call
Divine Heritage Gospel Choir
Genesis Children's Choir
Breakdancers, and more...
Tickets are $10 adults/$5 for children ages 5-11 in advance, and will be $12/$7 at the door.

If you doubt the good that can be done from your ticket purchase and donations, just take a look at these facts:
FACT: Over 2 MILLION children have been orphaned in Uganda alone by the AIDS epidemic, and Uganda is one of the SUCCESS stories for battling AIDS in Africa, lowering the HIV infection rate from 25% to 6% in the last 10 years.
FACT: Only 10% of children over the age of 12 attend school because it can cost from $25 to $175 a term for school fees and uniforms. They don't go because they don't want to, they don't go because their families can't afford it.
FACT: A loan of as little as $50 can help lift a person out of the poverty cycle permanently by allowing them to buy equipment such as a lawnmower or inventory for a store.
FACT: $1 can feed a child for an entire day.
FACT: We can make a difference in their lives. I know, I just spent most of my summer writing wills for AIDS patients in Uganda, and I saw their need first-hand. They need help, and we're really the only ones who can give it to them.
Please see the website for Reach the Children at www.reachthechildren.org for more information on how the funds will be used. Every penny we raise goes to Reach The Children, who in turn sends every penny to needy children and families in Africa (unlike many charities)!
I personally believe there is no greater need in the world today than that of the African children, and no people more deserving of our help than our beautiful brothers and sisters in Africa! After spending the time that I did with these beautiful people, I want to find ways to serve them the rest of my life. They are the most beautiful, loving, friendly, and hard-working people that I know, and they need our help so desperately to first survive, and then thrive. I think this quote sums up my feelings:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed souls can change the world; indeed, that is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
Please help us help them...
